The most powerful force in your life is the power of momentum. Think about your day to day lifestyle. Do you deliberately choose to do certain things every day or do you do things that align with what you are already in the process of doing in life? Look at how many people live their lives like their family members. Did they actually choose to live that way? It’s possible but not probable. They live a certain way because of a lack of decision and fall into the trap of momentum.
It is extremely hard to change the direction of the momentum of our lives. When you step back and think about it you can imagine making changes and it may not seem so hard. However, when you step out to make changes that go against the direction of your lifestyle you will feel the pull towards the norm. This is why most people will never go to the gym or change their type of employment or make any other changes, momentum. This is why it is important to slowly build the type of lifestyle we need to have on a daily basis to become who we want to be. Will power alone usually will fall short when the amount of momentum is too large to overcome. It often will reap more results simple doing smaller things consistently than trying to do a few large things perfectly but then going back into old patterns.
It starts with trying to think of the results we want to see in our life. Then think of the work it will take to achieve those results. Now think of the person who achieves those results and how they live their day to day life. People who live overall happy and successful lifestyles often have to teach themselves to put in the work voluntarily that no one wants to do. They understand that you cannot stand in front of a stove and say give me heat and then I will add fuel.
When I was obese I didn’t realize that I was slowly building momentum that enabled me to lose virtually all the weight I wanted gone. I started by looking at results of others on YouTube and frequently visiting fitness forums. By doing this I was slowly making these people my peers and like the saying goes, you will be like the people you spend the most time with. With the internet we can choose who you spend the most time with. We can use this wisely and choose people who are already reaping the results we want. Slowly but surely I changed my diet and lifestyle to become the person who had what I wanted. Eating certain foods and going to the gym isn’t nearly as hard to do as when I started because I have momentum behind it. Momentum works for the negative and the positive if we use it correctly it can be a driving force for success in our lives.
Too tired today? Do it anyway. Have a headache? Do it anyway. Don’t see the results yet? DO IT ANYWAY!
Keep doing what you know you should do because this creates the momentum to achieve the results you want in life.
I never thought that some of my closest associates were people on the videos that I watch, but it can be true. And you’re right. If we just start with something, and it doesn’t have to be monumental, just do it and keep doing it, we can build our momentum gradually so that we don’t burn out and quit. And we need to give ourselves time to see results. Because if we don’t quit, we WILL see them.
